The Guide

The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, part of the National Institutes of Health, has simplified screening for excessive alcohol use. It aims to make primary care physicians think about alcohol abuse as common, diagnosable and within their capacity to treat. The agency has written guidelines for primary care and mental health clinicians that ask these questions.
